Sustainability Is Redefining How Events Are Designed
After attending the FACTS Conference in Sydney last November, one message was unmistakable: sustainability has moved from an industry conversation to an industry expectation. Clients now want clear evidence that their events are environmentally responsible — and that planners can measure, not just claim sustainability performance.
Tools like EarthCheck, which provides structured carbon‑measurement templates, are giving planners a way to quantify impact in a way the industry hasn’t had before. And at AIME, I saw EventZero, another emerging tool helping event professionals track emissions across travel, accommodation, waste and supplier behaviour.
Together, these platforms highlight a major shift:
Sustainability is no longer about good intentions — it’s about data, reporting and accountability.
At Impact Events, we’ve already embedded sustainability into our processes guiding decisions from venue selection, food and waste reduction, reduction in single use plastic, reusable water bottles, use of attendee Apps rather than paper-based programs.
Over the past decade, we have transformed our internal operations to significantly reduce waste and improve efficiency. One of our most impactful initiatives has been transitioning to a fully paperless workflow. Where our office once required up to 24 reams of paper each month, we now use just two reams over a three‑month period.
But what I saw at FACTS and AIME made it clear that the next evolution is measurement. And that evolution has already begun.

With new tools like EarthCheck and EventZero leading the way, measuring sustainability is now simpler, clearer, and more client‑driven than ever.
The question is no longer “Should sustainability be part of our event?” — it’s “How far can we take it?”
We’re here to help you find out.
